sixty-eight seconds

My debut in film... well, sixty-eight second short film. My gorgeous friend Riham, directed, edited and produced 'Let's Go' as an assignment for university. We filmed it last Tuesday night in Brisbane City, just off Queen Street.

I'm so excited.

Congratulations Riham! Here's to many more successes!

:)

Check it out.

cut the crap

I finally did it. Quite literally. Cut the crap... out of my hair. A change for the better... to be taken as a personality holiday. My beloved long hair (which was at about my belly button) was given to the floor of Oscar&Oscar at around 12noon today.

After getting home and freaking out, I've gradually become calmer and have begun to embrace this radical change.

It really is a wee bit exciting... what do you think?

Happy Saturday evening to you

love for london

I have been on quite a musical journey of discoveries of late. From City And Colour, hey:carlisle, Florence And The Machine to the lovely Miss Adele from the UK.

Sitting here in the studio, as I do so many times a week travelling the world through my cartography, I have had one particular song on repeat for the last little while. A raw recording of 'Hometown Glory', previously accompanied by as many Adele tracks as I could possibly get my mittens on this morning.

Her voice and melodies are beautiful. Soul, funk, soul, acoustic... enchantement.
The song tells of her love for London, and it has made me think about my hometown, Inverell, and how gorgeous it must be this time of year... So I encourage you to get a hold of this track, if not - Adele's debut album '19'.

Today is a calm and beautiful day.

Enjoy the track, enjoy the lyrics.

Hometown Glory
by Adele Adkins

I've been walking
In the same way as I did
Missing out
The cracks in the pavement
And tutting my heel
And strutting my feet
"Is there anything
I can do for you dear?
Is there anyone I can call?"
"No and thank you, please Madam
I ain't lost, just wandering"

Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh, the people I've met

Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world
Are the wonders of my world

I like it in the city
When the air
Is so thick and opaque
I love to see everybody
In short skirts
Shorts and shades
I like it in the city
When two worlds collide
You get the people
And the government
Everybody taking
Different sides

Shows that we ain't gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united
Shows that we ain't gonna take it
Shows that we ain't gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united

Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh, the people I've met

Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world
Are the wonders of my world

happiness

...has just breathed a sigh into my Saturday morning.

My beautiful cousin Casey, got married recently to Mr David Castro, in Shakespeare's Garden in Central Park, New York City. And today I have received my first Wedding pictures to peruse. I am so incredibly happy for them. Love is such a beautiful and extraordinary thing. I can see it in everything they share.
(oh - I'm gushing)... but that's what family does to you.

Happy Wedding. Happiest love.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Castro.

calm

Should I take it as an omen, this feeling of calm?
I have had such a productive day and am feeling quite balanced.

I believe I may have even had an epiphany with my latest advertising concept... what more could this little des. student want? :)

Feeling good. Now - must rest my wee head.

Goodnight Sunday, hello Monday.

bazaar bemusement

Last night while I was artistically embellishing my room, Jess and I stumbled across a random conversation topic - the classic ABC kids television show 'Round The Twist'. We sang bits of the song reminiscing, and laughed at how bazaar the story lines were. Ah, memories. So I couldn't pass up the opportunity to post the zaney theme song lyrics here on FOR THE QUILL AND INK.

Truth beit, some days you never know what's going to inspire you!

Round The Twist
written by Andrew Duffield, sung by Tamsin West

Have you ever, ever felt like this?
Have strange things happened,
Are you going round the twist?

Have you ever, ever felt like this?
Have strange things happened,
Are you going round the twist?

Well have you heard the word,
About the bird and the spider.
That wiggled and wriggled
And giggled inside her?

Have you ever, ever felt like this?
Have strange things happened,
Are you going round the twist?

Have you ever, ever felt like this?
Have strange things happened,
Are you going round the twist?

If all the king's horses
And all the king's men,
Couldn't put me back together again.
I'd say...

Rain, rain, go away,
Come again another day.

Have you ever, ever felt like this?
Have strange things happened,
Are you going round the twist?

Have you ever, ever felt like this?
Have strange things happened,
Are you going round the twist?

Rain, rain, go away,
Come again another day.

I can hear myself say,
This is not my day.
I'm saying what the hey,
You won't believe me anyway!

I can hear myself say,
This is not my day.
I'm saying what the hey,
You won't believe me anyway!

Have you ever, ever felt like this?
(Rain, rain, go away, come again another day.)
Have strange things happened,
Are you going round the twist?

Have you ever, ever felt like this?
(Rain, rain, go away, come again another day.)
Have strange things happened,
Are you going round the twist?

Going round the twist...

worth your time

Something to remember. You can always help, be an ear, a helping hand, a shoulder or just a good chat. A movie-goer, a cupcake maker, a Sunday jogging buddy.

space-cadet

My room is finally the creative space I need it to be. I have adorned my walls with my art and inspiring pieces from admired artists, as well as a few memorable photographs to keep me positive through my working moments.

At home today, then off for a business/social (it's always social) meeting with Jess, and then off to watch my old hockey team play this afternoon. I miss playing so much - I can't wait to be there cheering them on!

Uni and Oliver Twist both beckon for my attention and the temptation of Sportgirl shopping is drawing me in. But I must say NO, today at least - even to the gorgeous new in-store arrivals... I'm already conjuring up amazing outfits in my mind with each of these desired accessories. Hopeless! Haha. Confessions of a shopaholic? Perhaps...

And so I have many a thing to do today. I must be off!

Happy Saturday!

OH! and I would like wish my beautiful cousin, Casey and her fiancé Dave, a GORGEOUS WEDDING this Saturday in New York City. May love follow you around every corner!
Love you!

bang-bang!

This lady right here, inspires me - not only with her blog therockstardiaries, but also with her gorgeous style and brand new bangs. Mine are in need of some serious maintenance... perhaps I'll take in this very pic and say 'cut me up!'... ahh... but my beautiful hairdresser, Nikki, has made her way to Melbourne :(

This means finding a new fabulous hairdresser... but who could possibly cut it?!

therapy

Poetry - therapy for the soul.

I wrote this piece whilst at work today. It's amazing how some days the words literally fall onto the page and when you read them back, you gasp and smile at what it means to you. So another installment of what is ticking over and over in my little head, it simply had to come out.

[as yet untitled... perhaps you could think of a title?]

I feel a bit sick with this reality.
You don't know, you couldn't
know how I am...
I don't even know, couldn't
know if you're alive.
What a sickening way
to fall out of love.
Betrayal and abandonment
of a true heart -
we will remain, apart.

I had a little world with you.
Now I realise -
it was just you.
How untrue, to self, to life
I have been.
My heart is now
under lock and key.
Don't attempt to find it,
it has found me,
And I am King -
I am the Queen.

I've been waiting,
for faith to come alive.
To believe you're not a lie.
But my hopes, my health
hath sunk.
And so I slipped into an
ever hopeful stupor.
Relapse to re-evaluation,
over-analysis and under-nourishment.
My whole has suffered,
but my strength
will build that fortress wall.

It is my triumph - your fall.

whimsical wonder...

Late last night I bought Lisa Mitchell's album 'Wonder' from iTunes... and my morning has been magically transformed into a whimsical, bright, sing-song, light-hearted musical adventure. Getting to know each song with curiousity and content listening - I think Lewis Carroll's, Alice, would listen to Lisa.

Her voice is beautiful and really takes you another place - I feel like I could be anywhere right now, and I am happily working away here in the office.

Listen, listen. Please listen.

I'm going to see her at The Zoo in Brisbane, on August 28.
Get your tickets!
