post joyeaux noël

How was your Christmas? Mine involved a stop-over from the parents on their way to Adelaide on the Eve and Christmas Day festivities with the Boyfriend, brother and sister. An easy wake-up and gathering around the tree to wish one another a Merry Christmas and see what the Big Man & loved ones had so kindly left for us. We all did very well and sat around with a feast fit for a gorgeous summer Christmas and a drink or two enjoying one another's good company.
A few phonecalls to and fro with the rellies and the day was made. Whilst we 'tried' to lay off the technology for the day... here are a few happy snaps from my iPhone.

The Newby siblings.
BF & Brosef.
Stunning wee sis, festively clad.
Christmas Day evening view.
Festive Frangipanis - handpicked by the BF.

I do hope you and yours had a very Merry Christmas.

I'm off to Melbourne tomorrow - a sweet vacay with that one I... y'know - think is the bees knees. What are your New Year's plans?

i am grateful

I've thought it's about time to share some of my photos taken for the I am grateful challenge. It's funny (and a little cliche perhaps) how the simplest things really do bring you the most happiness. From the blessing of embarking on a brand new day, to picking veggies of an evening - for these simple pleasures you have to be grateful.
Morning : Waking to a Brand New Day #iamgrateful
Purchase : a box of mystery goodies from The Fancy #iamgrateful
Food : These delicious lo-carb protein bars. The perfect office snack! #iamgrateful
Routine : Picking up the BF, admiring the subtle festivities of Riparian Plaza #iamgrateful
Warmth : amazing phonecalls from my cousin Casey Staar #iamgrateful
Food : Sweet sister time. Priceless. #iamgrateful
Quiet time : Finishing The Book Thief #iamgrateful
Routine : Our first 'big'harvest #iamgrateful
Gift : Sunshine yellow lillies, from the Boyf. #iamgrateful
Weakness : Movember lasted a little longer than expected. Loves it. #iamgrateful
Excitement : Receiving more snail mail from the North Pole. #iamgrateful
Experience : My workspace. Flowers, art & design. #iamgrateful

Counting blessings.

Next instalment to come soon.

Happy Friday

amaze

Today, I had one of the most heart warming experiences. A returned phone call to my cousin and I'm greeted with;

"Tell me five words to describe what makes you amazing. Come on."

A little startled, I proceed with the standard self-conscious;

"Uh, I don't know... um..."

"Five words, come on!"

So, I began to think what makes me amazing... a little embarassing, self-praising but here's what I went with:

1. Red hair (standard, really)
2. Compassion
3. Love (naff perhaps, but true)
4. Hard working
and Casey prompted me with number 5. Creative, followed by a

"Don't you feel amazing? You are amazing".

This was honestly one of the most unexpected phone calls, but truly made my day. And so after telling her just that and that she is amazing, I had to go and share the good vibes via sticky note to one of my work mates.

Warmth: Phone calls from my cousin #iamgrateful

I recommend be startled with such questions in the future.

Happy Thursday.

putting it out there

Those prosperous wishes, to the Universe...

día uno

Day One of the Mercedes Benz Australian Fashion Week, here in Sydney, saw the lovely Casey Staar and I pound the pavement from the Shangri La, to The Establishment, to the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Circular Quay and back to the Shangri La. An afternoon of various designer collections, previewed with the chance to buy, backed by stunning views saw two very stylish and happy ladies strut their stuff through the city.
Hesitant to take too many pics of unreleased collections (pre runway show), I for now snapped a whole lot of gorgeous scenic Sydney snaps. Beginning with my morning coffee run to the heights of the afore mentioned hotels. Mid afternoon until dusk allowed some beautiful shots, instagrammed to perfection.
Coffee, Tea & Me - Redfern
Inner city view of Centrepoint Tower.
Georgia Osbourne's latest collection, on racks. The Harbour Bridge in the background.
The one & only, Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The Lady herself, The Sydney Opera House.
One of my favourite shots so far.
Model, tourist, designer, model, designer. Oh - just the passing foot traffic ;)
A little layering, at dusk.
And well, Day Two has begun, so the lookbooks and goodies accumulated will have to be shared a little later.

Happy Tuesday!

bondi

Saturday afternoon saw the family and I head to Icebergs at the iconic, beautiful Bondi Beach. Whilst it was a little too fresh for my liking as far as taking a dip goes, the pools radiated luminous hues of blue and had plenty of Sydney-siders, enjoying the southern sea.
And here you have the famous beach sweep, from the southern side.
Sydney, I like you.

fotografía friday

For this week's fotografía friday, may I introduce (once again) my beloved family dog, Spitfire. 14 years young, and still taking a gorgeous shot. I took this photo whilst home last week, and I think it turned out ever so nicely. Still so full of character... I don't know how we could have done life without her. Blessed.

fotografía friday

fotografía friday part six, comes straight from the cockpit of the RAAF Hawk my little brother flew to the red centre of this diverse country I live in.
You can see a 'thumbs up' from my brother and the wondrous, World heritage listed  Uluru on the horizon and the surrounding literally red centre of Australia.
This weekly feature seems to be taking on an aeronautical influence, but the truth is this is simply a great shot - I had to share.

Nice one Mav.

fotografía friday

fotografía friday part four, inspired by the reflection post for my Photo-A-Day task is one of yesteryear. Here you see me as a wee one, with my cousin Christopher, at the one and only country marvel 'Green Valley Farm'. A theme park made of tin, a museum, mini golf, a zoo of sorts and a humungous waterslide, in the middle of nowhere. Strange, but still a fun place to visit. They like to call it a 'Bush Oasis'... and well, I'm not too sure about the 'Oasis' part, but it certainly serves a purpose for adults and children alike, to this very day.

fotografía friday

fotografía friday part three, was taken on my trip home for Christmas. My little brother flew up to Brisbane, to fly us home to my parent's in country New South Wales.
This image is taken down the wingtip, as my brother gave us the circling scenic recap over town. It's so lush there at the moment. There's nothing like it.

happiness

January 15 : Photo-A-Day

Happiness

After Michael's RAAF AFTS 'Thunderbird' graduation display flight.
In September 2010, my little brother graduated from Advanced Flight Training School in the the Royal Australian Air Force. The whole family, plus my Aunty Karen went to be part of this significant moment in time for my brother - a milestone in his life and military career. We were all so proud.
This photograph captures the happiness and pride that my sister and I have in regard to our brother. That tight bear hug, us three. That moment is precious - I'm so glad it is frozen forever in this frame.

fotografía friday

© Chloé Newby 2012.
The first installment of Fotografía Friday sees a recent image taken on my New Year's break. The scene sees a gathering of friends and their families in the shallows of Port Parham beach, South Australia.
The last sunset of 2011. Captivated by the beauty and marvel of the sunlight, the way the golden rays stretch through the late afternoon sky. The silhouettes of the gathering creating that sense of unity as we see out another year... to embark on a brighter sunrise. 2012.

Happy Friday.

tonight

It is December 18th, and it has been far too long between posts. Far too long. This evening, I have been to the cinemas with my sister to watch 'Arthur Christmas' in the true Christmas spirit that us Newby's truly harbour; and now - right this very moment, I am sitting on my couch, Christmas lights on, 'Must Love Dogs' on the television (now The Family Stone - Christmas again), sister watching rugged up on the floor, while I've been revisiting my whirlwind trip to New York City with a highlighter and my lonely planet City Guide.
It has been two weeks and three days since I've been back in Brisbane. It's surreal. It's been challenging, with much pining and a few tears, but overall trying to keep all those gorgeous moments and memories in the forefront of my mind as I've got back to the daily grind. You can see some of photos in my new york tab, here on my blog.
It's amazing how this year has flown... putting all the events and happenings into perspective and taking a little time to reflect and see how one's grown. This has been the most time I've had to just 'stop' in quite some time here at home. It's giving me a feeling of contentment, in a time that has been chaotic with work, emotion and that Christmas Shopping list. The Shopping List I can finally tick off - it's complete. But that's just it isn't it -
'The Universe lets your heart expand and grow a little bigger with every trial and challenge.'
I have become a Godmother, I've been to New York and the USA for the very first time, I've fallen in-love, I travelled for Love, my Degree is just about done (paper in June 2012), I've moved apartment, my creative aspirations are slowly but surely coming closer to that reality I wish to grasp. I've been to weddings of Family and friends, had hours long phone calls with friends I haven't seen in years out of the blue, had friends visit from distant countries, and am about to reunite with another for New Year after far too long. But these are just a few of the notable moments of 2011 - Christmas is to come. The family will all be home. The Curries, The Newby's the cats and dog. Summer, the smell of home and the luxury of being all together at that marvellous time of year.
I'm a romantic, I know. I love Love. I believe it can bring out the best of You, and others to the forefront of existence and there should be more shared around. It brings out true character many so often repress. It will take to You places you never thought you'd go, let you feel things you thought were reserved for fairytales or to encourage the faint-hearted.
So without further ado, I'll dedicate this night, this post to the part of 2011 that has past and the best it's brought out in all of Us. To the things that have made you go 'Ahhh'. The things that inspired you to take on Life without fear, guns ablaze.
I'll keep them in my holster for now, but I hope you can sit back and reflect on the things that changed you for the better, brought out the best in you this year and that you make the most of the couple of weeks to come.

 Have a wonderful Sunday.

Sometimes maybe I get carried away, perhaps it's the dreamer, the lover, the romantic, but if for nothing else - you've got to jot those memories down.

allow me

to introduce, or re-introduce... The Newby Three - candidly known as the The Newbashians. A photo of my siblings and I at my cousin Christopher's wedding in August past. Here, we are dining... moments from there - we are dancing.
A belated (via blog), but much loved CONGRATULATIONS to Christopher and Rochelle on there Love and special day.
Amy, Chloé & Michael

Even though I am Chloé - Michael can be Khloe, I dibs Kim (without the B.S.) and Amy can be Courtney (without the shitty partner, or lack of - where are they at now?).
 Minor justification. No biggie.
Ha.

Have a Fabulous Friday!

Here, Little Boy Blue heralds the arrival of the wee one and announces to those nearest and dearest the particulars of such a special event.

Family, love.

sneak peek

Here's a sneak preview of a typographic/mapping piece I'm currently working on...

A little puzzling? This one is going to represent the birth of my grandfather 'Newby' in Glasgow Scotland, 1926 - the patriarch of our family and family name.

More to come and the full concept to share!
