comfy materialistic love

In the latest edition of madison magazine, I came across these delightful graphic cushions. I can only say, they would sit lovely in my home.

Such a sweet label - Me And Amber.

You can find them here.

Colour

A section of my bookshelves.

I like to colour code my bookshelves, and thought that the hues of orange and pinks here was worthy of the Photo-A-Day entry donned Colour. A few fave titles there too.

fotografía friday

fotografía friday part four, inspired by the reflection post for my Photo-A-Day task is one of yesteryear. Here you see me as a wee one, with my cousin Christopher, at the one and only country marvel 'Green Valley Farm'. A theme park made of tin, a museum, mini golf, a zoo of sorts and a humungous waterslide, in the middle of nowhere. Strange, but still a fun place to visit. They like to call it a 'Bush Oasis'... and well, I'm not too sure about the 'Oasis' part, but it certainly serves a purpose for adults and children alike, to this very day.

Something I Made

A classic Hendrick's Gin & Tonic

My favourite spirit. Nearly my favourite spirit drink... change the lime for cucumber & tonic for soda water and you're bang on. Oh & the Wall Street Journal declares that this was the best gin in the world. Just sayin'.

Ready for Australia Day tomorrow?
I'm off to party with my work mates, sister & friends. The day will consist of zinc, Australiana paraphernalia, beer, lamb, snags, chips, dip, laughs and of course the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown. Praise the Lord for the Lucky Country.
Seriously.

Avagoodwun!

fotografía friday

fotografía friday part three, was taken on my trip home for Christmas. My little brother flew up to Brisbane, to fly us home to my parent's in country New South Wales.
This image is taken down the wingtip, as my brother gave us the circling scenic recap over town. It's so lush there at the moment. There's nothing like it.

My second Pandora bracelet

A wet Tuesday morning - 530am.
Our erratic summer weather in Brisbane is definitely keeping everyone on their toes. But even the dreary weather is beautiful.

Happiness

After Michael's RAAF AFTS 'Thunderbird' graduation display flight.
In September 2010, my little brother graduated from Advanced Flight Training School in the the Royal Australian Air Force. The whole family, plus my Aunty Karen went to be part of this significant moment in time for my brother - a milestone in his life and military career. We were all so proud.
This photograph captures the happiness and pride that my sister and I have in regard to our brother. That tight bear hug, us three. That moment is precious - I'm so glad it is frozen forever in this frame.

Something I'm reading

The just finished, sourcing and future read.

From left to right:
Eat Pray Love - Elizabeth Gilbert (just finished... and still referring to beautiful quotes) /
Anthea Paul's girlosophy ORACLE (sounds like a sap for a near 26 year old - but the principles within apply regardless of age) /
The L-Shaped Room - Lynne Reid Banks (next read - a secondhand bookshop find, for some reason I just had to buy).

fotografía friday

© Chloé Newby 2012.

This week's instalment of Fotografía Friday sees you looking at the famous Manhattan skyline, New York City, from the George Washington Bridge.
In my recent travels to New York City, it was this afternoon and the view that is captured here, that allowed me to truly marvel and feel like I was officially in The Empire State. I had already been in New York for nine days, gallivanting around the City with a Man who is nothing short of wonderful, seeing many sights and being consumed by the lights and sounds that is undoubtedly only New York.
It was here I had that 'wow' moment. I wasn't seeing the skyline in a book, a magazine, in a cinema or on a television screen - my very own eyes absorbed this view.

perception

I flipped to this page in my oracle this evening.
I'd say it's pretty spot on.
And sometimes it's nice, no matter how trivial you feel oracles or books of affirmation and enlightenment are, to open to a page that resonates with where you are at present in life.

where i sleep

January 11 : Photo-A-Day

Where I Sleep
The most ideal place to leave for the Land of Nod.

Bed - Manchester: Target (years ago) / Bed & bedside table: Ikea
Bedside table - Canvas block (my own) / Candle lamp: Ikea / Frame: Typo / Books & journals: my own various accumulations over time.

The natural light, clear crispness of the white and serenity of the soft blue in the bed linen, make this a sweet sanctuary.

photo-a-day

So I'm a little late (but not too late) to join the Photo-A-Day challenge, for January.
I came across this on Jaz's blog and figured while I'm quite into my quick-snaps these days, it'd be a creative challenge and simple pleasure at the same time to participate.

So stay tuned for my Photo-A-Day and fotografía friday posts this month! Perhaps you could join too? Be sure to comment or Tweet Me a link if you do!

believe

This questionnaire was passed on to me from Jazzie Fizzle from FizzleOut blog. I have always wanted to participate in a chain-blog post, and so I was delighted to receive this in conjunction with Sportsgirl - one of my favourite shops.

Q: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: I wanted to be many things as a child, but first and foremost - a Princess. Captured in drawings of orange haired girls in pink dresses with tall pointy crowns. I haven't exactly reached such a status, but my imagination let my aspirations also float in the directions of an artist, an actress, a singer and a ballerina.

Q: Did you make this dream come true or change your mind?

A: I have never drifted too far from the realm of Performing and Visual Arts, as my childhood aspirations encompass. So, let's see: Artist (tick!), Actress (hmm... debatable - drama queen?) and Singer (in the shower and automobile, most definitely), I have accomplished to certain extents. I wanted to study Fine Art Acting upon leaving school, but for the security of a pretty penny I chose to pursue a career in Graphic Design at the age of 17 and have stuck with this and my love of illustration and illustrating, ever since. Perhaps a role on stage will come my way some day. Ballerina? I wish! This Lady is so inflexible, however the grace has never fallen from my mind as I float around work or the house.

Q: What is your fave childhood memory?

A: In my childhood years, my brother, sister and I spent many summers at my Grandad's swimming like three little fish, though the one fond childhood memory that rings a bell is around Christmas 1995. The parents are by the pool at the tables and BBQ, whilst my cousins, siblings and I flit in and out of the pool staring into the starry sky. We're excited - the kind of excited you want to jump up and stamp your feet in quick succession. It's Christmas Eve, and we're trying to spot Santa with his sleigh and reindeer in the night sky. The Milky Way proved to be a marvellous thing, and kept us entertained and excited until we had exhausted ourselves.
It's nice to reflect upon those times of complete and utter happiness, brimming with the innocence of childhood, teaming with imagination.

Q: The biggest dream you have right now?
A: Wow. Well, where do I start? I have many, but I want 2012 to be my year to more openly establish a successful and steady freelance Art + Design business (this blog is the namesake). To gain illustration commissions, dip my finger in the photography jar and recognition enough to earn, enjoy and live off more of what I love. Projecting positive thoughts into the Universe and talking to God, I hope to pack my bags and see more of this amazing world and perhaps settle in a far off land for some time. New York? Great Britain? Europe? ... and work along the way. Ultimately, I want to absorb all the beautiful unknown and use such inspiration in my work life. That is my BIG dream, right now.

Q: Your summer must-have pick from the current Sportsgirl range?

A: This season it's all about those gorgeous hues of Pacific blue and Aquamarine, and teaming that with a bright burnt orange (or simply, my hair) I think you've found yourself a Hit! So my picks from the current Sportsgirl range channel just that... now to just take a stroll in the sweet balmy Brisbane air...
